Best 1080p High-Definition Camcorders
If money is no object, you're going to be looking for the absolute top-of-the-line high-definition camcorders. These are high-quality, semi-professional digital camcorders that have high-end features for serious videographers. These models are perfect for weddings, graduations, even short films.
Canon HFS10 |
The Canon Vixia HFS10 is the current flagship of Canon's high-definition Vixia line of digital camcorders. The HFS10 utilizes Canon's DIGIC III image processor to provide clearer, crisper video and is equipped with a powerful 8.59-megapixel CMOS sensor. The HFS10 is a flash-memory camcorder, and comes with 32GB of internal flash memory, capable of storing up to 12 hours of high-definition video (depending on the quality mode selected). If that's not enough, you can augment the internal memory with removable Secure Digital High Capacity cards, for extra storage. The Vixia HFS10 is an excellent choice for advanced and semi-professional shoppers. |
Panasonic HS300 |
The Panasonic HS300 is a great semi-pro digital camcorder, owing to its incredible storage capacity. The HS300 is outfitted with a massive 120GB hard disk drive, which can hold around 50 hours of video (in HE quality mode). Like the HFS10, it's also capable of accepting Secure Digital High Capacity cards, if you ever need to add extra capacity (though it's not likely). The HS300 has several important features that give extra control and versatility to a semi-pro user, such as a manual lens ring (for use with zoom or focus, depending on the mode), a microphone terminal, for greater audio potential, and full manual control. |
Sony CX520V |
The Sony CX520V won't be available until September 2009, but it's never to early to start contemplating a major purchase like this. Especially when it involves such intriguing new features. Yes, the CX520V is a full 1080p high-definition camcorder, and yes, it has 32GB of internal flash memory, not entirely distinct from its competition. What it does have that the others don't, however, is built-in GPS capabilities, for geo-tagging your videos. That way you know when, and exactly where each was shot. It's a novel feature, not essential, but a cute little perk on an already appealing high-end camcorder. |
