I have a DC20 which has 'died' on me, I have checked the battery, output from charger which are fine. Any ideas please?

If the battery works and the camera doesn't power on with your AC adapter/charger, you probably need to have it serviced. One option, though, is that it may have condensation in it which is effecting the camera powering on. Placing the camera in a bag with a few cups of uncooked rice to act as a desiccant for a few days. If it doesn't power up then, you'll need to send it in for repair.
