Difference between movies made with camcorder and digital camera's movie mode?

Giving me details about what the camcorder can do (better?) that the digital camera in video mode can't would help. Also I wonder about how movie quality will compare and whether there is a big learning curve in order to make, use/edit/show those movies.

Well, the camcorder will have a greater zoom range, better performance in low light levels, better lenses for the video image, using a miniDV camcorder allows for uncompressed recording which an then be captured into any format for editing. Wheras the digital still camera will usually save in .mov files. That's not a bad thing, mind you, just that it's a predetermined format choice as opposed to capturing the footage uncompressed into the computer for editing. On the whole, the quality of a camcorder vs. a digital still camera movie mode will be better.

Other pluses are light balance, adjustable shutter speeds, widescreen, stereo audio recording. And that's just the tip of the iceberg.

If quality is the concern, then going with a camcorder is a better move. But if convenience is your motivation, then having a digital still camera that shoots video is a good option.

I think James DeRuvo gave me a very good answer which included a lot of things I didn't think about, and it all makes very good sense. If you are going to add something, remember I don't have any more points to award.

Technically speaking
A digital camera will have a much larger sensor, a better lens, and almost the same digital processor found in a camcorder
So, technically speaking the manufacturer of the digital camera can easily make it shoot excellent video footage
But, they simply want you to buy both cameras, and as a camcorder gives you more value, they sell it at a higher cost, although, technically speaking it's made of much cheaper components than a stills cam

You'll see the same thing in mobile phones for example, till the day, you cant find a cell phone which has all the features, although the manufacturer knows exactly what the customers want... So for example, till the day, Nokia hasn't released any dual-sim cell phone... why they're doing that?? because they want you to buy 2 cell phones instead
Why Toshiba didnt add bluetooth to its laptop? what would be the cost for them to do that?? well, the cost would be zero, but again, they dont want to give you everything in one piece, they want you to stay hungry and stay foolish

And what's the real costs for manufacturing a laptop, a cell phone, or an ipod??? well, if you need to know that, check the price for chinese OEM products, or even better, wait for 2 years and check the price for the same piece

So, it's all about marketing

If I wanted to take pictures of my new grandson includes birth, his growth birthdays etc, which is better to use a still camera or having a camcorder? There are other activities besides my grandson that I can be involved in. Like taking a Christmas play at our church or making a project (still camera or video camcorder) with my wife's preschool class. Once a year their school have an open house. My sweetie usually wants me to take pictures of her class to be shown as part of their open house for parents.

Now the question is which is best- investing in a camcorder or a still camera. I am aware that some still camera has video options, butI don't want go that route. If I was to go through video path, I'd rather get me a camcorder.
