Do U need separate software for editing

Do you need to buy a seperate computer editing software for a digital camcorder or does it come with it? I'm a first time buyer and I have decided from all the information that the way to go is MiniDV, but I don't know about the software, if something comes with the camcorder or you then have to buy something to load on to my computer. I just want the video cam for fun things nothing serious or technical.

Often times, cameras will come with "demo versions" of software for you to try out. Usually, they're not very good. And when you consider that Adobe, Pinnacle and the rest offer downloadable demo versions of their software, you can try out just about anything and not feel you have to settle for what comes in the camcorder box. And while Windows includes Movie Maker in the XP OS, it's limited and you will outgrow it pretty quickly. Especially when you want to start burning DVDs of your videos.

My recommendation is Adobe Premiere Elements 3.0 for the PC platform ($99), and stick with iMovie (which comes with your MAC) on the Mac side. Both work great for the "fun things nothing serious or technical."

There are some free options out there on the net, but you know the saying, you get what you pay for.
