New miniDV camcorders with Time-Lapse feature. around $500-$1000

I've been looking high and low for a solid video camera with a good time-lapse video option, not still photo time-lapse. Seems like all the new models have discontinued the option.

Hey, James.
Generally, consumer camcorders do not offer interval timing, but the Sony does offer it in a couple of models. How well it works in comparison to entry pro-level camcorders, will be the real question.

The Sony HC46 and the Sony HC96 miniDV camcorders both offer time-lapse feature and would be a good choice for PC. If you are a Mac user, then unfortunately you will need to spend more and look into the Canon GL2 which also works with PC, "excellent Camcorder"

The Canon GL2 would be a nice start in entry pro-level camcorders you can take a look at with time-lapse recording. The GL2 has a time-lapse feature (they call it Interval Recording). You can set it up to record for 15 frames, 30 frames, 45 frames or 60 frames every one, five or ten minutes. You can get some great effects with time lapse, and I'm glad to see that Canon put this on the new GL iteration.

Happy Shopping!

George.
The duration of time lapse all depends on a number of elements. This is a good question for a new thread, I will happy to respond.
