what is the quality level of the sony hdr-fx-1 and/or fx-7 for outdoor and hunting video production?

A friend purchased a fx-1 and is stating it is superior to the camera that is being used now. (canon gl-2 and the xl-1's) I know the xl-1 is probably better in terms of quality but comparably in terms of size, weight and ease of use I have found the gl-2 to be much more efficient. Am I wrong in this thought train?

Hey, Bonecutter.
Well, I don't know all the exact elements involved in your hunting videos, and also if both of you are just videographers or hunters as well where portability is a factor with the highest video resolution.

The bottom line is this:
All these cameras will record a nice quality and they all have their own downfalls, but when it comes to achieving the best overall and final video production results, it really is determined by the camera operator. If you are talented in videography/cinematography with creative abilities and video innovation, then you can easily produce a much more superior video production than your friend any time and undisputed.

You can have two artists, one artist can have the best paints and brushes, but the other artist will create a more attractive painting. With the camcorders you have mentioned, I consider them as just tools and are only a percentage of the equation. So when someone has to depend on the highest technical quality to prove themselves, they usually fall short on the final creative results.

I truly believe you can produce excellent hunting video with your GL2 when combined with your talents over and above the capabilities of you friend and the FX-1-7.

Happy Shooting!

Yes, the GL2 is much more efficient in handling and overall versatility than the FX-1-7.

Piero Foto,
Thanks for your informative answer! I agree with your answer about the quality of the post production being the quality of the videographer.
Thanks again,
