how do you turn off the automatic power off so I can let the camera stay on pause longer than the 5 minutes?

I video hunting and I like to leave the camera on for extended periods of time. But the 5 minute auto power shut off keeps turning the camera off. How do I turn the auto power off (OFF)

page 36 in your manual talks about the powersave feature. But I don't believe you can alter the time or turn if off. But the powersave feature is meant to preserve the heads when you are you record/pause. It seems to suggest that if you're not in record/pause, the powersave feature does not become a factor. IMHO.

It does talk about turning off the VCR Stop function. which would allow you to preserve your aperature and shutter speed settings. This may be the option you're looking for.

You can take out the tape and it will monitor or stay on in video mode. I use it to run a live feed at church. We don't record at the camera. We run a line back to a mixer. It works great but with a tape in it turns off in 5 min. Just leave the tape slot empty and Its perfect.

This is crucial information if you are using the camera as a webcam on a service like mogulus or ustream. thank you so much -- you saved me hours of hunting. And this information is NOT in the manual, at least as far as I know, and I scoured it for a half hour.

Josh, Thanks for the info, it really helped me get to the crux of what I wanted to do.
1. Record without the tape in the GL2, to my hard drive.
2. Record to the tape in the GL2, and to the hard drive at the same time.
3. Have the GL2 not cut off (Auto Power Save) if a tape is inserted, but I'm paused in record mode.

For item #3...
The manual does not explain it well, but I got it to work and these are the steps I followed.
GL2 with tape inserted: Power button set to Camera > Menu button > Display Setup > Guide Info > select Custom Key.
This will cause "VCR STOP" to display in lower left of view finder or LCD display.

Now, when pressing the Custom Key (CSTM Key) button on camera at bottom left, "Pause/Stop" will toggle in the upper right of view finder or LCD display. When toggled to "Stop", the "Auto Power Save" function will not engage, hence turning the camera off while it's paused with a tape inserted.
