does the hv20 have an external mic input

Hi, r carroll.
Yes it does, The HV20 features a microphone terminal for attaching an external microphone. The audio/video terminal doubles as a headphone terminal for monitoring sound while recording. The HV20 also offers manual audio level adjustment, giving the user precise control.

oh no, i didnt realize the mic was also the headphone jack. i ordered the camera and was planning on getting an xlr adapter to plug in to the camera for more professional sound. but now i dont know how I will be able to even monitor it?

Actually, the AV and the headphone share the same port... you can indeed monitor the external mic with headphones at the same time with the Canon HV20, but you have to remember to set the default of AV out to headphone mode.

Could you tell me what microphone for HV20 has good quality and below $50 please? I am really desperated to find one. My audio recording quality is bad. Is a wireless transmitter hooked on everyone's collar helpful to boost the audio quality please? How do I balance the audio and make the sound sounds real ?
