Playing other tapes

I have some tapes recorded on a Sony HDR-HC3, that has stopped working. Will the HV 20 play tapes recorded on other brands and older models?

According to Canon, supported playback is only 1080/60i, 1080/24P, 1080/30F, 1080/24F. However, this thread has many testimonials of people who have no trouble playing SD recorded tapes on the HV20.

Another topions is to pick up another one used on eBay. Transfer the footage to your PC and then burn to DVD.

I do have the similar question. Does Canon hv20 play back the tapes recorded by other cameras, for e.g. sony hvr Z7, at 1080 24p mode?
