Great Value . . . But still a little lacking

( - 1/31/05) Overall, I would say this is a great camcorder. I find the controls to be simple and intuitive. However, for a camera in this price range I would have expected better low light capabilities. Indoor scenes are a bit grainy and when panning from a light source to a darker area, shutter speed drops and the picture becomes noticeably choppy. Outdoor shots are sharp and smooth. I like the onboard stereo microphones. I chose this camera over its little brother the Optura 300 for the optical stabilization. On high zoom it works very well. Connectivity options are numerous: RCA A/V, USB and digital firewire. I installed a firewire card in my PC for the ability to connect at higher transfer speeds. However, playback on a PC is a bit of a chore as you have to load some codecs to play the MPEG-4 format.
