Is there an offial release date for the Canon TX1?

I saw two different sites about this. One said that the camera was due in Australia in mid-March, the other said the camera was due in the US in April.

I'm not quite sure why Australia should get the camera before the US---especially since America is renown for its consumer spending??

I was curious when the TX1 would be shipping as well, since I have one on order and it's getting toward the end of March. When I clicked the Amazon link and they are now saying "Availability: This item will be released on May 31, 2007."

It's no vapoware - you can get it in Singapore right now, in Malaysia I'm assured by end of next week.

I just got this back from Canon Technical Support:

"Thank you for your inquiry regarding the TX1 camera. The TX1 camera is currently scheduled to be shipped on April 17, 2007. "

Gone missing?. Did the ship sink? Did the truck get robbed?. Is that shipment the same one that will be going to Canada/US?.

The mystery deepens. Earlier this week I was told by Canon Malaysia in no uncertain terms that the TX1 will be in dealers hands by the end of this week. In fact, Canon Malaysia website is promoting it as a new product together with the recommended retail price. This morning, Friday 6/4/07, I checked with their Customer Care who confirmed that it's available in the stores, stocks having already been delivered to them. In fact, none of the stores had it, all except one didn't know when it was coming, the exception being the KLCC Canon Concept Store which said it will only be available next month. This afternoon, Canon Customer Care called to say that actually the stocks only arrived at their Shah Alam Distribution Centre yesterday and because of documentation, yes, it will take some time to reach the stores, probably next month!!

I don't know what to make of all that, do you? Some people have said they suspect some kind of marketing strategy game to preempt comparable competition offerings due about the same time. It does make you wonder.

i bought mine on April 2 from www.digitalfunstuff.com.au in sydney. they still have stock today (April 10).

apparently the "Good Guys" have them on the shelf already... the sales man offered it to us for $590.00... we're off to the shops, we'll tell you how it goes.

May 31st is looking more and more likely for US availability. Here is the latest from Canon product support.

"The PowerShot TX1 is expected to begin shipping from dealers in May.
Regrettably, we do not have an exact date available."

I've had the TX-1 on order with Amazon, my local Ritz, and Crutchfield since mid march. I just got a shipping confirmation with tracking number from Crutchfield and canceled the order with the other two vendors. (I'm in the US)

Actually I called Crutchfield and they said they never got them. So not sure why you would have a shipping letter... I have called everyone in the US and no one has it. NO ONE

Just got off the phone with my wife. I had her open the package and confirm the Canon packaging says TX-1 on it. Cough Cough, I may be coming down with something and have to leave work early :-)

Thanks to Crutchfield, they came through once again for me!

Thats good to hear considering no other manufacturer has it in the US besides back alley shops in Brooklyn. When I called crutchfield they said they had not gotten them. Obviously he was wrong. Congrats man I am sooooo Jealous

Hard to beat Crutchfield customer service.

I expect that there were quite a few preorders to be filled from the initial shipment before they claim to have them in stock for new orders.

It's good to know that they are arriving in the US to the merchants for delivery. The rest of us can probably expect to be getting ours soon.

OK, I got home and it really was here. I can't comment on much yet, just a couple quick notes. I think I'm going to need to get lipo-finger as the buttons are kind of small. Also, it really shows finger prints. I'm gonna have to spend a couple days figurin' out how to take shots then I'll post a couple examples for ya.

I finally got one at Datavision in NYC. It was a gray market one from Japan. It cost me 475. It is freaken amazing. The Hd quality is unreal. I can not believe what comes out of this small pocketsized camera. The reviews are off. This thing rocks. It takes better pics than my sd450 and shoots 30 frames hd. How amazing is that. GET IT......
