How can i edit in finalcut the Hd videos of this camera? Final cut dosen't works with opendml jpeg codec.
I download a sample video of the TX1. Is a AVI openDML JPEG, I can open without problem in QTime, but I can't edit on my finalcut 5. I don“t like to convert the video to another codec because i lost a lot of time in process. I like to work natively on FCpro. Is that possible????

Sorry for my bad english :-)

Well, the brutal truth is, that you'll probably have to re-encode it if Apple doesn't have a plugin or can't import it.

Try to load the movie with virtualdub and save it again as avi.

Now there's an idea. Also try MPEG Streamclip.

I was disappointed to discover this problem as well. After some reading, I came up with a solution that does not require buying any new software.

Use the program called Compressor, which is included with Final Cut, to convert your TX1 video to HDV 720p30. Minimal loss of quality (I could not see the difference, perhaps others can) and you can do the conversion in a batch. Then in Final Cut, it won't need to be re-rendered, you can edit it directly. Allow some time for conversion, my guesstimate was that it was 1:1, ie 20 minutes of video takes 20 minutes to convert.

It is a bummer that Cannon chose this format.

Oh yes, one more benefit is that 3.18 GBs of video becomes 1.75 GBs of video, almost half the size.

Also, Canon is spelled with just one N.

Have you got more decent answer? because still, nobody seems to know how to edit opendml m jpeg files in final cut?
No, we don't want to render it to some other compression. We want to know if there is a codec possible to add to fcp?

Some programs have various problems with the avi files produced by your TX-1 because there is no "index" section in the avi file (e.g. VideoLAN VLC shows a warning dialog when you open them, and it gets an error trying to convert the avi files).

There is a great little program to fix the problem fast and easily called divfix++ which you can get from http://divfixpp.sourceforge.net/

There is some other information about editing the TX-1 avi files on the TX1 forum http://forums.powershot-tx1.com/index.php?board=9.0

Cheers
