How to set camera to record SD and not HD? What file format would it then record to?

I am have ordered this camera based on many positive reviews but I do not have a HD burner. Therefore till I get one I could convert HD to SD if its not too time consuming. If it is, I read from another post that one can set the camera to record in SD rather than HD. How would one do this? Also, if it records in SD rather than HD what is the file format, MTS still?

UPDATED: No, you actually can't. Youc an adjust the bitrate in the setup menu for length of recording time, but you'd have to reencode it to MPEG2 using your computer.

(thanks to PMAC for pointing out my error on this)

Pixela MB can export? I was looking through it yesterday and didnt find any way to export .. I somehow managed to get it saved as a M2TS file instead. James .. thanks for all the help but if u dont mind could you possibly list the steps (for a dummy like me) as to how to export a MTS file to MPEG2? Also, where would I change the camera to record in SD (standard definition)?

IIRC:

Click [Export] in the main window.
Click [Export Movies]
Select your movie and click [Select the sage image type]
Select the file type and click [set the save image type]
Specify the export settings and click [specify name of file to be saved]
Specify the file name and click [start export]
Click [OK]

It's around page 70 of your manual, which can be downloaded from CanonUSA.
