I have an iMac but no High Def TV -- should I get this camera?

Hi -- In researching these cameras, it seems smart to buy high-def cameras, in terms of longevity, and this seems like the right camera, but -- I have an iMac with IMovie HD, but no high-def TV and just a standard DVD player. Will I be able to use this camera, with my non-HD TV and/or DVD player? I want to edit footage from camera to iMac to discs, and also upload some footage to the web. Many thanks.

Sure. The HF100 has been tested and approved compatible by Apple. You can always encode the footage down to standard def and then burn to DVD. That isn't so much an issue. But if you're planning on getting an HDTV down the road, I'd consider going with the HV30. It shoots in miniDV, which is much better for archival purposes and will capture easily to your iMac.

Both models will adjust to playing onto a standard def TV through direct connection.
