How do I get the video to play on my PC without the included software?

I just got this camcorder, but I am having intense problems with getting the video to play on my windows XP laptop. For some reason, the camera came with no software and I am not in a situation where I can get it. My computer recognizes the camera and the files are there but they won't open and I can't even import them into the editing program which is Windows Movie Maker as I have nothing better at the moment. I am incredibly frustrated so any help would be appreciated. I just need to be able to open the files!

The HF100 records in AVCHD and as such, you'll need to transcode the footage to get it into your editor as XP doens't support AVCHD for Movie Maker. If you had Vista Ultimate, you'd be in like flint. Luckily, there are many AVCHD converters out there. The one I use is AVCHD Converter.
