Editing AVCHD files from Canon HF 100

I have a laptop with core2 duo p8600 processor, 3gig ram. I currently use Sony Vegas pro 8c as my editor of choice. Will I have any difficulty editing AVCHD files recorded from a Canon HF100?

I've come across forums where people were complaining about incompatibality issues between Canon AVCHD files being edited with Sony Vegas. Is this true?

I also read of core2 quad processors giving problems when editing/playing AVCHD files. Is this true?

Looking forward to your reply. Thanks.

Ironic considering that Sony invented AVCHD. From what I read here using Motion Browser to import to your PC and then using explorer window in Vegas gets you the rest of the way.

Thanks for your answer, James :)

Is it necessary to use Sony Motion Browser to import the files to my pc? Can't I just copy the files directly from the SDHC card?

In your opinion, what are the minimum specs that a pc needs to be in order to edit/playback mts files smoothly?

Thanks again.

If your editor supports MTS you may get away with it, but chances are, you'll have to use MB to import the footage and then you can export it to any other editor you need. That's all I use it for.

Canon shows the min reqs here. But essentially, I would go with a Core 2 Duo and as much RAM as you can afford - and if 4GB and above, you're going to want to use 64 bit vista as it can handle RAM over 4GB and 32 Bit can't. A good 7200 RPM hard drive is good to boot.
