I think you'll need to update your copy of FCP. As Jake Ludington states:

Final Cut Pro is the premium choice for any Mac video editing. Because of the tricky implementations of AVCHD mentioned above, Apple has been issuing updates to address some of the bigger complications. Final Cut Pro 6.0.3 (or later) is the most up-to-date support for AVCHD available, with 6.0.1 being the first version of FCP with AVCHD support. Making sure you have Final Cut Pro 6.0.3 installed is your best bet to making sure you have a great editing experience with AVCHD and FCP.

I just tried to import a file form my vixia hg20 to final cut and it worked.
You open imovie and import the file through it.
The you open final cut and import the movie file from where imovie stored
your file.
It opens with no problem, however I don't know if the quality of the image
once blown up will suffer from this. If somebody knows I would appreciate an
answer.

Blown up? Are you talking about taking a still shot with the HG20 or editing the video and "blowing it up." Regardless, any time you blow up an image, you are essentially blowing up the pixels. This will pixelate them, causing the image to degrade at a rate consistent with how much you blow it up. This also happens when you enlarge a still image, the image gets fuzzier as the pixels get larger.

FCP isn't recognizing my HG20 when I use "Log And Transfer". There isn't the option for "AVCHD-Apple Intermediate Codec 1440x1080i60" in FCP 6 like there is in FCE 4 which I used to use for my HG20. How can I get it to work in FCP?
