How do you import Vixia HG20 files onto a Mac if iMovie won't recognize the files as movie files?

I'm very pleased with the quality of the camera and the video itself, but I'm finding it impossible to find compatible programs and computers with which to edit it on. I thought Mac was the most user-friendly, but it won't even recognize the files on my camera as "movie files." It's not just a problem with my Mac, because I've tried with several others. Suggestions?

I have this camera and am a Mac user. I had to purchase Final Cut Express to fully edit the video. You can also use iMovie 08 as it will do a direct import for you.

You must be using iMovie '08 or '09 to import directly from the camera. Check to make sure you have one of these. If you do, make sure you have updated via "Software update" in the apple menu. I have this camera and have used it with both '08 and '09 by doing nothing more than plugging it in.

Imovie 09 does not see the clips on the hard drive. It can import from the flash card just fine. Running Leopard, with latest updates. Does anyone know how to import from the HDD with Imovie?
