My ZR70 MC Camera's cassette auto eject will not function correctly. When the camera is first turned on a " Remove Cassette" request is displayed.

The " Eject " notation will display on the screen. The tape will not eject but will only travel approx. half way with a clicking noise then a moment later reinsert itself. Three beeps occurr during the " Remove Cassette " warning, then the " Eject " display will continue while flashing at the right hand top corner of the screen.

When the camcorder displays "Remove cassette" message this means that it feels that the tape is somehow damaged and wants you to replace it. If the camcorder cannot eject the tape, you should not force it, the tape loading mechanism is very fragile. You should ask a knowledgeable technician to help you removing the tape.

In case there is not enough power in the battery to eject the tape, try connecting DC adapter to the camera and eject the tape again. If this does not work, bring the camera to a repair shop.

I MANAGED TO REMOVED THE EXISTING CASSETTE FROM THE CARRAGE, BUT THE EXACT SAME PROBLEM STILL OCCURS AS DECRIBED BEFORE. YES, IT DOES SEEM THAT THE VIDEO CASSETTE TAPE WAS STILL WRAPPED AROUND THE HEAD. THE PROBLEM ACTS AS IF THE CARRIAGE DRIVE MOTOR IS WEAK...

If there's tape wrapped around the head as it seems, then of course you keep getting the message. Make sure everything has been removed. Then I'd recommend cleaning the heads and blowing it out with canned air. Once that's done, you may solve the problem.

I agree with Ungerman that having a more experienced set of hands take a look is a good idea.

I will try your suggestions. Thank you for your response. I'm sure I will have to send this product off to a repair service. Another question: Could this fault be related to the ccd image sensor advisory update, dated Oct. 6, 2005 , from Cannon, Dated Oct.6, 2005? Where would you send your camcorder for auth. factory service?

Well, it could, I guess. But there's no mention of that issue in the service advisory. So it's probably unrelated. However, I'm betting they'll just repair it anyway. Just make sure you mention that you think it's caused by the CCD issue.

Contact Canon as mentioned in the advisory: U.S. residents are kindly directed to contact the Canon Customer Support Center for further assistance at 1-800-828-4040. Support hours are Monday thru Friday - 8:00 AM to 12:00 midnight; and Saturday 10:00 AM to 8:00 PM (all times EST). Alternatively, if electronic support is preferred, please send your email to carecenter@cits.canon.com
