Can i record audio from a powewered mixer and cut off the audio from the firewire

When we record our worship services we use the firewire to get both the audio and video to our panasonic dvd hard drive but the sound is crappy it has been suggested that if we can figure out how to take the audio out of our powered mixer and plug it into the AV port and some how turn off the audio from the firewire connection we would have the same sound that we have on our cd's

Sure. If your camera has an external minijack mic port you just plug a patch cable in there and it shuts off the built-in microphone. But I can suggest a better solution. Have you looked into Adobe On Location CS3? It used to be called DV Rack by Serious Magic and it allows you to capture video footage from a camcorder directly to a PC, making the tape/DVD/hard drive of the camcorder a backup. It gives you a heck of a lot of options and may be ideal for what you're looking for.. It has software driven monitor and waveform analyzer and an audio spectrum utility that allows you to remix and boost the audio signal and you could probably plug in the audio to your PC as well from the mixer.

There's a free demo download on the page link above.
