camcorder eats my tape then eject tape warning flashes

My borrowed brothers camcorder has a problem - upon inserting tape - it takes it in, then eats some of the tape, then the remove cassette warning flashes on the screen along with some bleeps until I remove the tape.

It is a Canon MV7oo, could be due for a service, or mabe I have been heavy handed, All help appreciated

Or maybe the heads just need some cleaning, especially if cheaper tape is being used. Have the heads cleaned. That'll do a heck of lot.
