Compact HD Camcorders
The Pure Digital Flip Mino HD, Kodak Zi6, and Creative Labs Vado HD are all bringing HD video recording to consumers in pocket-sized packages. Let's compare the three and see how they stack up against one another.
|
Specifications: 1.5" LCD, 4GB (1 Hour) Storage, no HDTV Output. The Pure Digital Flip Video Mino HD is a sleek, and stylish HD video recorder that offers simplicity to consumers. There's very little to distract you from what you're doing, as the camcorder only has three buttons. Video quality is good, though a lack of image stabilization makes it necessary to hold the Mino HD very, very steady. The 1.5-inch LCD is too small, but the camcorder itself is very light and tiny, perfect for portable shooting. |

Specifications: 2.4" LCD, Memory Card Storage up to 32GB, HD Component Output. The Kodak Zi6 is probably the most versatile compact HD camcorder, since it has something neither the Mino HD or Vado HD has: an expandable memory card slot. The Kodak Zi6 can accept Secure Digital HC memory cards up to 32GB. That's 8 times as much video as the Mino and 4 times as much as the Vado. Additionally, the Zi6 has the largest display of the three camcorders, making it easier to preview and review your clips on the camera itself. |

Specifications: 2" LCD, 8GB (2 Hours) Storage, Mini HDMI Output. The Creative Labs Vado HD is the only one of these three cameras with a true digital HD output for playback on an HDTV. The Zi6 has a component HD output, which is nearly as good, the Mino HD has only a standard-definition output. That's the major advantage the Vado HD has over the competition. The other interesting feature is the ability to shoot not just in high-definition but in standard-definition, allowing you to choose which resolution best suits a particular situation (and this allowing you to record longer SD videos, as well). |
