Cannot capture video on MAC

I got the JVC GR-D770 for Christmas and have been unable to transfer video or connect to my MacBook Pro. All of the software that came with the camera looks like it's for Windows. I am connecting using the supplied USB cable and tried to use iMovie to import but my camera is not on the Import list.

I read on another site that something that may work is to connect to the Mac in play mode on the camera and play a few seconds of the video to have the computer recognize the camera. Still hasn't work. If anyone has a link to drivers or any solutions I would very much appreciate any help.

Thank you!

Nevermind.. I have solved the issue by purchasing a firewire cable which iMovie was able to recognize the camera after connecting.

The other thing you might want to do (or for anyone else that may have this problem), if you wanted to save money and use the USB cable instead is select on iMovie under preferences the type of camcorder you have, and then it should be able to detect it using a USB.

Ok, I don't know what I'm doing. In fact, not a one of us in this family is a Techy. Don't have or use a camcorder, but need one especially to video my son's soccer games for recruiters. On the other hand my daughter does indoor music recitals. So we need low light capabilities as well. We have a MacBook. I need something easy to use, but with good quality that won't cost an arm and a leg (preferrably under $400, but could stretch a it if I was convinced it would make a big difference). Any suggestions?
