good thing gone bad

I like the camera. it did a good job. However, after a year and 1/2, it stopped working. I was taking pictures in china one evening and it worked good. The mext morning i got the camera out ot the bag and it would not turn on. I tried recharging the batteries and i even used a new battery that i knew was working to see if it would turn on. I have not been able to use it since. Does anyone have any idea as to what happened or how i can remove my tape from the machine. HeLP!!!!!!
