Unfortunately, according to Apple, iMovie supports most Mini DV tape-based camcorders that use a FireWire cable (also known as IEEE 1394 or i.Link) which support DV (standard definition) or HDV (high definition) formats.

Tapeless camcorders can be connected via USB 2.0, but miniDV is still a firewire operation. If Panasonic has a dock for the camera which comes with a firewire option, then you're in business.

You may be able to try a Bridge like the Pinnacle Movie Studio for MAC. That may work.

Hi,

Thanks for the help.

Yes, I have the Firewire cable, but my Mac is giving me an error. I guess I will have to buy a cable for my PC and try from there.

Thanks

Interesting. What's the error it gives? You may need to adjust the sound settings. OSX can't handle some sound settings on camcorders and as such, will give you errors in connection or synch issues.

You may also try downloading the update for iLife vs. 1.1.1, which s"upports system software components shared by all iLife '08 applications, improves overall stability, addresses a number of other minor issues, and supports general compatibility issues. It is recommended for all users of iLife '08."

It just states error communicating with Camera. I'm new to the mac, so I don't even know how would I adjust the sound? Just turn the speakers down?

Any help with this greatly appreciated.

Sorry, if I confused you on that. It's not the volume, it's at what mHz the camera records the audio in. check the settings
of [SETUP] >> [12bit AUDIO]. If you can alter this to 16 bit, you may have better luck. I ran into this issue with my sharp camcorder and OSX. I ended up having to buy a new camera (Canon ZR70) to solve the problem.
