We have thick blue lines when we play back what was taped...does a setting need adjusted?

Brand new PV-GS80 - first time recording. Played back previously recorded tape and that has a "digititized" line running through it in playback mode

According to Panasonic, you may want to run a dvc head cleaner through the unit. Also test another tape to determine if it's not a bad tape. Hitting the reset won't hurt either.

I had to call them to ask. Their website is rather useless.

If you see the lines in the viewfinder. and if it occurs while using different tapes, it could be a problem with the CCD block or on the mainboard where the encode/decode section is. If it is the CCD block it is defective or you have a loose or dirty connection on the ribbon cable from the CCD block. In record mode you are seeing the video E/E, which means you are looking at the video from the CCD block which has passed through the mainboard. In this case you may need to return the camcorder for repairs.

Good call, Shari. I'd also recommend checking with Panasonic for any service advisories, it may be repairable for free even if the warranty is expired. Worth a shot to please your case.

Thanks for your answers. We did try everything that James suggested, but it still didn't correct the problem. Since the camera was brand new we just returned it and exchanged it for the exact same model. We haven't had a bit of problem with the new one.
