Question Possibly Answered (10 points for the best answer)

Used a DVD-RAM disc on my Pan VDR-D200. Don't have to finalize it before playing on my computer and DVD player. However the disc quit working and when

I put it back in the camcorder, the display read "ck dsk". What did I do wrong? Can I correct the disc problem ? Maybe by formating? RAM discs cost about $10 per 3. All 3 did the same thing. I also have had no luck importing the movie to the 2 supplied Pan softwares. VLC, WMP, Nero, and Power DVD all play the movies, but I can't edit them. Any help would be appreciated.

You could check that the disc isn't dirty or scratched. But since all three did the same thing, this leads me to believe that the disc maker is suspect. Try different brands, but I'd stick with recommended varieties. Additionally, can you "rip" the data onto your PC? If you can, perhaps you can then reencode them for import into your editor.

How about DVDRs? They're much cheaper than the RAM variety and if you use RWs, you can unfinalize them and add to them.

This is one of my major beefs about DVD camcorders. They are designed for convenience, but if you want to edit your movies, they're actually more difficult to use due to all the hoops you have jump through.
