My wife and I moved away from our families, and we both us our FS10's in conjunction with imovie to send videos back and forth! We love it.

I love my camera, but the battery died in Costa Rica. I recharged it once, then it permanently died. Now I don't know where to get another battery pack. Very disapointing.

Canon FS10 Comments & Questions (write your own!)
"iMovie does not support this video format. If you have any other video
capturing programs, I would recommend directly contacting their
respective developers, as they may have updates or plug-ins available to
add the AVCHD compatibility."
. . . shows how useful Canon tech support is !
FWIW, I am using iMovie '08 v7.1.4. It converts the native Canon format to QuickTime MOV format. Adobe Premier Pro CS3 v3.2.0 does NOT seem to recognize the camera at all.
Also, you have to rotate the mode switch at the rear of the camera to "Video Playback" (blue vidcam icon).
Great site here! Got me headed in the right direction to figure this out.
Pixela Image Mixer 3 seems to be available for Apple computers directly from the Pixela web site for $100.
pixela.co.jp/en/products/au...
Of course, no need for this since iLife '08 costs less.
It would have been nice for Canon to have included a Mac version as well as the PC version.
Check this out for a discussion of the MOD file format: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/MOD_a...
Note: I cut and pasted the Wiki URL, but it still links incorrectly. Drops the final right-parenthesis. Try this, by hand:
en.wikipedia.org/wiki/MOD_and_TOD_(video_format)
It records in MOD. NO it is not compatible with ANYTHING right now. It DOES come with movie editing software... for XP 2000 and VISTA ONLY. I am told that 10.5 with imovie8 will work.
Mpegstream clip will convert. But.. eh.. still think its going back to costco.

Nope, I have both of those and nothing... I also tried it on my MacBookPro with the core 2 duo, 10.4.11... nothing. why would canon just not release a mac version? This is freakin ridiculous... it's not like mac is some no name computer that no one uses! I've tried downloading all the suggested stuff from a bunch of recommendations, nothing. It seems this camera is headed back to the store.
Here's also another solution I just found (but haven't tested):
Here it is:
first thing you do is create a folder on your desktop or someplace
*Open iMovie
-create/name a new project
-plug in JVC Camcorder
-iMovie notices the JVC, and automatically imports the clips
-Drag the clips (in any order you like) to the top, middle screen (screen says drag files here)
-highlight you project name in the far left screen
-now click share at the top
-now click export Movie
-save it in the folder you created in the first step
*Open Final Cut
-import movie from the folder you created
Also, right clicking on the original clip in the browser at the bottom of iMovie, and click on 'show in finder'. That way you can access the original clip and not modify it anymore then you need to.
As for my previous answer regarding renaming ... I misspoke. Wrong camera/format.
Its a new format and apparently not a very well adopted one yet.
I've tried to adopt other new file formats to find myself ass out after a short time.
Sony is awesome at that. Proprietary media with proprietary format... In this case.. I don't know what the future will hold for MOD.
It took a very long time to convert from one format to the other and there was a great deal of loss under most circumstances.
It is definitely not worth the effort. tape still rules? I don't know.. I haven't tried any other memory cameras. But reading that they use extreme compression means they're probably rather full of loss at this point in time.
Thanks
I'm done, Hope u the same.
Set the Mode dial on the rear of the camera to Video Record (red video camera symbol). Power on. Swing out the screen. Press "FUNC."
Use Joystick to move highlight on the left-hand selector bar to bottom item, "MENU". Press Joystick to select / set. You should see "Camera Setup", which is the top choice on the left-hand selector bar.
Move Joystick to the right, placing the highlight on the top item, "Self Timer". Use Joystick to move down to fifth item, "Widescreen". Press Joystick. Now, you can select widescreen "ON" or "OFF". That is how you choose 4:3 or 16:9 for recording.
Sorry, but previous answer was incorrect.

It has 8GB of onboard flash memory, plus the capacity can be expanded with a Secure Digital memory card.
Thanks so much for your time!
As for lens hoods ... check with Canon directly, although you can also find printable one's on the internet which you can simply cut out and slip on.
Thanks
Have you tried capturing with iMovie? Vs. 08 and above supports AVCHD natively.
My recommendation is to get a cheap firewire based camcorder and use that. USB doesn't stream as good as firewire. Another option is the Microsoft Life Cam HD. It's an outstanding webcam, has autofocus and shoots in HD.
