Canon Vixia HFS100 Reviews
Canon Vixia HFS100 Reviews by Camcorder HQ Users
- 5.0 out of 5
Pros:
-great quality especially outside
-very easy to control menus
-mac friendly (iMovie, Final Cut)
-very solid
-nice lens
-2 mics
-24mbps recording
Cons:
-software included sucks (but you shouldn't ever use free included software for any real video editing)
-the internal lens cover rattles
-the built in camera is not so good (keep your still camera)
notes: turn off facial recognition, use white balance on dark areas, you need a fast computer to edit this type of video (core duo 3ghz + and 4+ gb ram), get yourself a multi coated uv 58mm lens, and buy the 16gb sdhc class 6 memory card

This camera was expensive to begin with...but hey we don't mind spending the money if it's a great camera. As per other reviews, we thought this would be great, especially since it's a Canon brand. What a mistake....this has been the WORST camera I have ever owned. It is completely non-user friendly and takes very 'shaky' videos. It keeps on trying to stabilize the picture, but continually has that digitizing shake/focus- blurring thing going on when it takes pictures. It also has proprietary software to review your videos or attempt to get them onto your PC. The software is a nightmare to use......and after hours and hours of attempts to download my videos to my PC, I still cannot get it done. I've never had problems like this on my other brand camcorders. Also, you cannot take out the card to input to your computer to view the files, but instead have to have it hooked up to the PC AND plugged into the wall socket which then sends the camera into a 'freeze' mode that cannot be exited. The canon software is not user friendly as well as the camera's memory utilization and cataloging system. Every time I try to use this camera it is a frustrating experience.
I hate this camera....stay away!
