Editors' Comments

The Mino is the latest addition to the ever-popular Flip series of simple video recorders, an even-smaller (if you can believe it) model that will provide excellent web-quality video clips that are easy to record, transfer, and share. The Mino comes with 2GB of on-board memory and can hold up to 60 minutes of video. The big change from the previous models is the power source: by switching to lithium-ion from AA batteries, Pure Digital is able to shrink the size significantly. It is also available in black. It's still very bare-bones, so don't expect too much from the Mino, but if you want simple, easy, short clips, you'll be quite happy with it.

Specifications

  • VGA (640 x 480) quality video recording (MPEG-4).
  • 2GB internal flash memory (60 minutes)
  • 1.5-inch LCD display
  • No optical zoom / 2x digital zoom
  • Lithium-ion battery

Great Idea, but too flimsy (Danielle - 10/17/08)

I loved the idea of this camera, but the flip out Usb port broke off the first day while plugged into the port downloading the videos.
If you were to get this, I highly recommend getting the extra usb port cord to hook up for downloading rather than letting it hand from your computers port!

  • How to Buy a Camcorder

Buying a camcorder isn't as straightforward as it once was. The vast array of resolutions, storage formats, and body configurations make it difficult to discern which one is best suited for your particular situation. It's easy to get caught up in the specifications and numbers presented by retailers and manufacturers, using them to rank camcorders as "better" or "worse" without considering how they'd actually be used in your life. This short guide will walk you through the tangle of information and help you discover the right camcorder for you.
