The HD1a uses MPEG 4 compression. It looks great, but when you try and edit it, you'll end up recompressing that footage if you choose to output it to DVD. That will cause your quality to take a hit. MPEG4 is a great standard, with good video quality. But in my view, it's an end medium for internet viewing and not for DVD output.

There are some uncompressed video samples at www.listvideo.com. Just download for free and burn it on a DVD and playback in a TV to see the quality.

If you had the same video quality but on a different method of saving it to the camcorder, the quality would be a whole lot better.

I have this cam, and have noticed that when I record in HD, and playback from the cam... the picture is good, however, I still see pixels.. it looks digital.. Since this is HD.. shouldn't this not look so pixelated??? Am I doing something wrong?
