Need movie camera that takes high quality movie AND still photo at same time

I need a higher quality movie camera that will also take a several mp still shot while the movie mode is actually running. This is so a movie AND still shots can be taken when there is only one person present to photograph an event. I would like the highest quality on both I can afford, however still shot quality is more important.

Dorothy,

This camera should be a decent option for you. The 7MP resolution will allow for sharp photos and the video records in HD. As for taking photos while videoing, based on the web manual it does not look like this camera will perform this function. Look for a camera with the Ambarella A390 chip in the near future to utilize the capability you'd like.

Thanks so much, Andrew--this is a huge help, especially the website links. Are you aware of any specific cameras on the market that have integrated this technology?

Dorothy,

This technology was only announced at the end of January. I was unable to find any cameras that have already integrated it, but it looks like Sanyo might pick it up in the near future. I would hazard a guess at 6 months to a year before you see it on a shelf though.

Raymond, as for your need for a close distance focusing, the Canon FS11 will focuse as close as 10mm (closer than an inch) at the widest angle. Good luck and happy shooting.
