Why can't I playback videos that I have uploaded to my PC from the Camcorder?

I have recently tried to view my short clips that I have put on my SR80 but after i had installed all the Sony software and uploaded it. it won't let me view the videos!

When i open up the editing software and try this it show the individual frames on my pc but still wont allow me to watch a video playback.

Do you think its a system fault on my pc? Its only a 3 year old PC and seems to have all the system requirements but do i need certain other software to view it?

Any help would be greatly appreciated as I'm using it for my Wedding and Honeymoon in September and need to know I can get the videos off the Camcorder!!!

Most HDD camcorders, and the DCR-SR80 in particular, record in MPEG2, which is a dvd format. It may be that you haven't got the MPEG2 codec installed to play it. Check your editing software. Chances are, you'll probably need to re-encode it to a more editable format (this is a HUGE disadvantage of using hdd camcorders).

If you just want to watch it, howevever, I recommend VLC Media Player. It's free, open source, and plays just about everything.

Recommend capturing using WinDV. Google it. It's free and it works easily. I've never had a dropped frame with it.
