Hello,
First of all, according to Sony, you do not need the CD to download your video.
second of all, you can download--for free--all the info that was on you lost cd. once you d/l the software, you can burn a new cd to store it on.

first things first, lets get those new baby videos off the camera and onto the computer where you can burn it onto a dvd for safe keeping!

here are the steps to downloading video from a sony hard drive camera to your computer:
How to transfer video or images from a camcorder with a hard disk drive using a USB connection.

IMPORTANT: Movie player applications must support mpeg 2 playback to open these files properly. Refer to the software manufacturer for additional information and available updates.

Turn on the computer.
Make sure the camcorder is turned off.
Connect the camcorder to the computer using the supplied USB cable.
Plug the AC power adapter into an electrical wall outlet and then connect it to the camcorder.
Open the LCD screen on the camcorder.
Turn on the camcorder.
The USB SELECT screen will be displayed on the LCD; touch the HDD icon.
Open the My Computer window on the computer.
In the My Computer window, double-click the icon that represents the camcorder and then navigate through the folder structure to locate the video you want to transfer.
NOTE: The camcorder will be listed in the My Computer window as an additional hard drive.

Click to select the video or image files you want to transfer.
NOTE: If your are using a High Definition Handycam® Camcorder, Sony recommends copying and pasting the AVCHD folder to the hard drive of the computer before accessing its contents.

Type CTRL+C to copy the files.
Click on the computer folder to which you want to copy the video or still image files.
Type CTRL+V to paste the file into the computer folder.

Next, to download a copy of the software that came on the Sony CD go to the following link, chose "everything," then download it:

*****
next, you can get a free copy of the video editing software (ImageMixer software ) that came on the CD for your specific camcorder by going to the following link:
http://www.pixela.co.jp/oem/sony/e/imagemixer/support_faq.html

and here is the info on using ImageMixer to make DVD:
To create a DVD disc that can be played back seamlessly with ImageMixer 3 DVD Authoring, please refer to this document (PDF file) located here:
http://support.d-imaging.sony.co.jp/www/handycam/download/imx_hdd_update_e/Seamless_DVD_e.pdf

* You need Adobe Reader to read the PDF file.

For the version of ImageMixer supplied with DCR-SR80(JE), DCR-SR80E(JE) Support for seamless playback of a created DVD disc:
The [Seamless playback] option will be added to ImageMixer 3 DVD Authoring. By setting this option, you can create a DVD disc that can be played back seamlessly without stopping for a moment between scenes. (*1)

(*1) If you set the [Seamless playback] option, it will take a longer time to create a DVD disc.

I was able to gather this info from the Sony website, starting with the support page for your camera, found here:
http://esupport.sony.com/US/perl/model-home.pl?mdl=DCRSR80&LOC=3
I hope this helps
shari

Problems in transferring Video to PC in Sony DCR SR-80. -

Hi,

My Connection always says HDD Connecting Keep USB Cable Connected.

I really don't know where is the problem. All the cables are connected properly.

I tried 10 to 15 times, it's giving the same problem. Even I tried to burn DVD also, there also it says Connecting Keep USB Cables connected.

I have a HDD Camcorder, I am finding difficulty in transferring the videos from the Camcorder to PC.

Using this link, I followed the instructions, still I have problems.

Please help me.

Thanks,
Gopi.
