I have no sound or beeps on my camcorder.

During playback on camera, there is no sound. No beeps when turning on or going thru menus. Sound is ok when movies are downloaded to PC. Tried reset and format and that didnt help.

You may wish to check the volume control. But if it doesn't affect the camera's performance, what concerns you?

Yes, I have checked the volume, which should automatically reset with the reset button. So I don't think that is it. I use playback on my camera quite abit with my sons health for the doctors, etc. I was wondering, maybe the speaker is blown?

first I wrote the 3 things to try down below, but after reading up at the Sony Site, the problem may be with the camcorder's design. I will quote Sony:

"Follow this procedure to troubleshoot no sound when playing back on the SwivelScreen™ LCD of the camcorder.

IMPORTANT: Only camcorders with a SwivelScreen™ LCD Display have the ability to playback audio without the use of headphones.

NOTE: Refer to the instruction manual supplied with the camcorder for model specific instructions for these procedures.

Turn up the audio volume on the camcorder.
Playback a different tape in the camcorder.
Verify that there are no devices connected to the green headphone jack on the camcorder.

How to adjust the audio line output level or volume from a camcorder.

Sony Vision series camcorders have a volume control located either behind or on the outer edge of the LCD screen. This will only control the volume level of the internal speaker. There is not a function on the camcorder that allows changing the audio level of the line or DV output.

If the issue is still unresolved after completing all of the troubleshooting steps, service may be required."

So my question is, has your Camcorder ever had playback sound? If yes, than try the following:

1) In the standard set of toolbox menu items , (or by pressing P-Menu and choosing volume) you have your playback volume setting. Press + to raise playback volume level. I know you reset the camcorder, but that may not have reset the volume setting, so first try that. If still no sound than go to my 2nd suggestion.

2) the next setting after the volume is the multi-sound which selects whether to playback in dual sound or stereo. This probably has no affect but try that second.

3) Still no sound? make sure the mic sensitivity or level is turned up (if the sound is fine on the computer, than this is probably not the problem)

Good luck, and please let us know what you find out.

Well, if that's the case, and you do have to repair it, hopefully you still have it under warranty. If not, thenyou may consider checking with your credit card company (if you paid for it that way), often credit card companies offer a feature where the warranty is extended as a benefit of being a card holder.

Check it out.

But if you just bought it, you may consider returning it out of hand. It's always possible that it's just a lemon.
