There is no picture showing up on my DCR-SR80 LCD display

When I turn on the camera there is no display on the LCD. It is not working on any setting; camcorder, playback, or still shot. Can it be that the camera thinks the LCD is still closed and therefore not displaying anything?

Take a light and shine it onto the LCD while the camera is powered on. If you can see faint images in the screen, its possible the bulb that powers the LCD has gone out. If you still can't see anything, whats most likely is the internal cable that connects the LCD to the battery may have become disconnected or damaged, so I would take it in to get repaired, or send it to sony for their warranty if you still have that available.

I turned my camera on again and discovered that the picture on the LCD is displayed when I swivel the LCD the other way or on its side against the camera. So if I am recording, the person I am filming can see themselves but if I wanted to see what i was recording I can't see my subject.
Thanks.

You can turn off the LCD backlight to conserve battery power. You may have accidentally pressed the DISP/BATT INTO button and shut it off. This can easily be the issue here. Also, you can adjust the brightness of the LCD screen (pg. 61 of manual). You may have it turned down all the way making it difficult to see. But since you say that the subject can see the image in mirror mode, it may be stuck there. Try resetting the camera back to it's factory default settings.

Thank you to all that gave me suggestions on what the problem might be with my camera. I think I need to bring it in to be repaired. I took everyone advice and still no working. The image only shows when LCD is swiveled.
Thank you!

Hi Catherine

I just wondered if you managed to find out what was wrong with your camera, as mine is doing exactly the same thing, only working when it is flipped over. If you had it repaired could you let me know what they said was the problem?

Thanks
