Do I need Image Maker to open my video or can I use another program?

I am borrowing my friend's TRV33, they did not give me the CD. I downloaded the USB drive, and I was planning on using Sonic's My DVD software to input to my computer, but when I start My DVD is does not recognize the camcorder. Do I have to purchase the Image Mixer software that came with the camera or does anyone know of a way to transfer my camcorder to my computer... Help any advice would be appreciated.

Absolutely not. If the TRV33 has firewire (I think it does) download WinDV. It's free and is one of the best video capture utilities around. I've never had a dropped frame with it. Once you have it captured, you can use any editing software with it. Even Windows Movie Maker which you already have on your PC. In fact, you can probably just transfer directly there.
