Well, unfortunately there isn't a driver for it available and I'm betting that due to the age of the camera, there won't be. As Sony's position is that all drivers are probably already available through the Vista OS. Nothing like passing the buck. You could try and download the XP drivers from Sony's website. That may work.

And if you're using 64 Bit Vista, it's not supported at all.

The issue isn't so much the the software, it's the connectivity of the camera with the OS. If you don't have a driver for it, you may be out of luck. Try the XP drivers and see if they work. Then you can capture using WinDV (google is your friend). if you have firewire or any video editor can capture the footage ... once your PC connects to the camera.

Forget about connecting through USB with this camera and Vista, I have the same problem. The solution is to buy a firewire pci card (if it does not already have one) for your pc and a 4 pin cable to connect. This will set you back about 15 pounds in the UK

You can try installing the XP drivers. See if that works. But you may have to downconvert back to XP in order to have that connectivity. Sometimes a new OS just plain breaks the connection.

If anyone was unaware of this.. The touch screen menu on the camera has a function near the bottom that turns USB Streaming on.. That's how I got mine to work.

Hmmm...okay Chris, I will give this a try since I never got it to work (with usb...no firewire available). Was resigned to looking at new camera's...but would really prefer not to spend the money if I can avoid it and get this to work again.

I tried the XP drivers in Vista--no dice. I get the same incompatibility error message as when I try to load the factory version.

USB streaming is already on, and it has no effect.

After further research, it seems Vista officially does not permit USB streaming for the Sony DCR-TRV33... However, firewire is supported via Vista's generic drivers. Just plug in a 4-to-6 pin 1394A and it will detect your device and load everything up in a couple minutes.

I'm having the same problem with my Sony DCR-TRV33 and my new Sony Vaio using a Sony firewire cable. It's not compatible.

I was very persistent with Sony Tech Support and finally got to a level 3 technician. I pointed out the Sony website says this camera IS compatible. The tech basically said Sony's website is wrong and I should check Microsoft's website for 64-bit compatibility. I did that. And ONLY ONE SONY HandyCam is 64-bit compatible! The tech said no software driver can fix a hardware incompatibility issue.

This could be a big problem for Sony considering how many HandyCams are in the marketplace...and how many of the new computers are 64-bit.

September 19, 2008 Brian - please elaborate on your answer

What is a 4-to-6 pin 1394A? I would love to download my tapes from my DCR-TVR33 since Sony still says it's compatible with Windows Vista!
