iMovie 08 now has AVCHD support. But that isn't your issue. The issue is whether the camera itself can be read by the MAC and sadly, that's a no. This is because with the SR1, footage has to be captured via USB 2.0 and not Firewire, which the mac OS requires. You may be able to transfer it if you have a dual boot windows configuration, or if the SR1's camera dock has a firewire port (I know the HC96 dock does, so this may be Sony's workaround).

But if you can get the footage on the mac and you have iMovie 08 or even Final Cut, you can edit it.

Actually the whole purpose of iMovie 08 is to allow for video importing over USB. See http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=306171 for more info.

Fair enough, but is that ability worth dealing with a dumbed out editor that won't even allow you to do advanced titling and effects? Not in my mind. Besides, firewire is a much larger pipeline. And when you're dealing with HD, you need all the transfer speed you can get.

I'll give you that, FW would be a much better choice for an I/O option.

And a fairly cheap one. These days you can get a firewire card for under $20.
