can you record normal SD on the SR-1

I'm starting university studying Media and I really like the way the SR1 looks and it's got brilliant features. My concern is that will I have any problems recording SD. Also, does the fact that it doesn't have an audio output compromise on the overall performance? I've used the PD150 and that was a breeze. How does the SR1 compare to the 150?

Well, yes, you can record in SD, but it's in conventional MPeg2. That means you'll start with compressed source footage from the git go. As a filmmaker myself, this is a bad thing. I would advise against using mpeg2 as source footage for any project. Also, the wrap on the SR1 is that it suffers from frequent motion artifacting and since it has no wind screen for the microphone or no external mic feature, it seems to me that the SR1 isn't really the camera for the kind of media projects you'll be doing in school.
