It's brand new, but it's got all the same Digital Rebel spirit that everyone has come to know and love. The XTi/400D will feature a 10.1 megapixel CMOS sensor, and a few features familiar to users of the Canon EOS 30D, such as the 9-point autofocus and 2.5-inch LCD screen.
The 400D will also feature some unique technology aimed at eliminating the accumulation of dust and debris on the sensor. The camera will use ultrasonic vibrations to shake dust off of the CMOS and will also store information regarding the location of dust in the image file to facilitate automatic touchups in the included Digital Photo Professional software.
The Digital Rebel XTi/400D is expected to be released in September, and will be featured at the upcoming Photokina trade show. The body-only model will retail for around $799 dollars. The lens-equipped model will feature Canon's EF-S 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6 zoom lens and cost $899. Both prices maintain the tradition of the Digital Rebel's afforability and value. Expect prices for the previous version, the 350D, to drop very soon.
The Digital Rebel 350D debuted in Feburary of 2005, and introduced legions of new users to the world of SLR cameras. It remains one of DCHQ's highest rated cameras, thanks to the many gushing reviews provided by our users.
We fully anticipate this camera to be a blockbuster, so stay tuned to DCHQ as we learn more about it. We promise to update you on the latest developments and best deals as soon as we can.
