I have an old canon rebel and I use a Sigma lens 28-200. I am planning to by a Rebel XSi. Can I use the same lens? Will it change the zoom range?

I happened to experience opposite results. I put my Sigma 28-200 Asperical IF lens into my new Xsi, there is err01 message saying communication error, asking me to clean the lens contact points. I did as told, but still won't work. Could someone suggest me what's wrong with it. The sigma lens should be OK as it works fine with my original Canon Rebel 2000. The Xsi should be fine as well as it is a newly bought item.

I bought a Canon XSI and it is working well with my old Sigma 28-200 lens. I don't have an answer to your problem

This is a common problem with sigma lenses, especially the older ones. Sigma reverse engineers the electronics so that when Canon updates the lens system, older sigma lenses either needs to be sent in for re-chipping (free except for shipping cost to them, although they don't seem to do this for too many lenses now) or they will show up with an error (either all the time or when you try shooting at an aperture not at the widest). These older lenses will work fine on most film bodies (except the new ones) and extremely old digital bodies like the D30, 1Ds Mark I, etc.

I have a canon rebell xsi and a sigma DL Zoom 75-300 same error shows up saying communication error.

I have a rebel Ti with a sigma28-200mm and I'm looking at the Rebel XSi. I see that I may not have to buy a new 80-200mm lens. Does anyone else have any info.?
also does anyone no the difference between the Rebel Tli and the XSi?

I have done an os system update and now it's working without errors. So goto the canon website and download the latest version of the software.
