How do I stop the histogram display?

I can only find a small paragraph in the manual and it only mentions what a histogram is, but it doesn't instruct on how to remove that graph from the playback display.

Check the setup menu. It'll be in there.

Actually, I've checked the setup menu a millions times and it's not there, which is why it was so frustrating. But a friend was able to answer my question. In playback mode one must use the toggle button, pressing down until the histogram is no longer displayed.

Thanks anyway, James.

That's good to know. Tell your friend to log on so you can give him the points. LOL.

I had this exact same problem with my Nikon D40x. The problem can be easily fixed by doing two things. First, pull out the battery so you reset the electronics of the camera. Secondly, push down the playback button and then use the toggle up or down position to change the view during playback. The toggle button has "OK" written in its center. After finding the view you like, just hit the playback switch to go back to picture taking mode and it should be set.

I,m thinking of getting the D40 as a starter camera, is it easy to use, instructions easy to follow.

It'll have many auto features, but it's more of an intermediate rig, IMHO, for those who have experience in 35mm, but are transitioning into the digital realm. For a complete beginner, my recommendation is the Digital Rebel XTi.

Thank you, thank you for answering this question. My D40X has been stuck in this mode the entire vacation with no explanation in the manual or Nikon D40X For Dummies as to how to remove it. I also have no idea how I got it in this mode to begin with! Thank you so much for your help.
