Well it depends. What kind of photos are you going to be taking? If 99% of your shots will be below 8x10 or even 5x7, then I don't really think you need to wait since that extra 2MP won't even be seen in the pictures you print. Better to take the extra money and invest in better quality glass (Lenses). IMHO.

I have the same question and was wondering if it was worth waiting for the Xsi because it has live-view? Would this make the camera slower or less responsive in some way versus the Xti? Thanks!

Probably not. But it's still too early to tell. And I doubt that it'll make it worth investing several hundred dollars extra for. I wouldn't wait. If you waited for the next thing over the horizon, you'd always be waiting. And if you find that you'd rather upgrade to the newer model after the fact, there's always eBay to sell it.

But for me, that extra few hundred dollars can go towards a better lens. A much better benefit than live preview.

Rebecca,

I've found I like the viewfinder better than a screen many times, especially bright situations. I agree with James' recommendation to save your money and buy a better lens. The XTi is a great camera on its own.

I definitely have to agree if your just taking regular pictures of the family and such get an Xti instead. And remember higher megapixels does NOT mean better looking pictures. Just imagine trying to look through screen to take pictures with a big 70-300 lens on the camera. IMHO for here and there pictures look into a point and shoot if taking pictures through the screen is the main priority.

Especially when a superzoom point and shoot is probably more practical for just family snapshots. But for the serious hobbyist looking to take the plunge, the XTi is an excellent entry level rig.
