Hi Larry,
Short answer is, not really, not without losing image quality or creating a huge hassle for yourself- although adaptors do exist they're far from practical. There's an excellent discussion of this here that should answer your questions better than I can!

Thanks so much for the help. I bought two Canon lens with the camera, a 28 to 135mm and a 75 to 300mm that will work just fine. I just hated to loose the use of the other lens I already own. I had a 28 to 70mm and a very good glass lens 70 to 200mm that worked really well on my old A-1. Thanks again . This will keep me from wasting good money on something that does not work..

You're very welcome. Also, I feel your pain because I too had the A-1 along with some lenses that I loved... I haven't bought a DSLR yet, and the A-1 and its lenses are one of the reasons I still consider myself a 35mm holdout. =)

I am thinking about buying a canon eos 400d and I was wondering if my old lenses I had with my canon eos 300v will firstly fit the 400d and if so will I lose some image quality. The lenses in question are a 75 - 300 EF 1:4 - 5.6 III and a 28 - 105 EF 1:4 - 5.6.
