can 4ood shoot timelapse? can it be programmed to shoot a frame every ten seconds over a period of many hours?

Before I buy I need find out whether I'll be able to shoot timelapses with the 400d, meaning, at a normal shutter speed, you can program it to automatically snap a frame of a scene every ten seconds (6 times per minute) over a period of a couple hours. When I play all the frames together in an editing program later on, it comes out as a timelapse. Is 400d capable of this, or does it need a remote, if so, what remote?

There is no information of timelapse capability for 400D.
If you are interested in the subject, perhaps you would consider other Canon models such as S80, S70, S60 or even older models like 30D.

If you had made up your mind to buy 400D and for some reasons want to take timelapse pictures, I would suggest a roundabout way that will enable you to do so. Here goes :

a. Purchase and install to your computer a third party
software call "DSLR Remote Pro" from Breeze Systems.
b. Connect your 400D to the computer via a USB cable.
c. Run the DSLR Remote Pro and set the time intervals for
pictures to be taken.

Basically DSLR Remote Pro is designed to enable Professional photographers to take pictures remotely through a computer.
The pictures are automatically downloaded to the Hard Disk of the PC.

Apart from the many features, the software also incorporate a time lapse feature which is probably what you want.

At $127, it is a bit expensive for the amateurs, but should be OK for those who needs it.

EOS Utility differs from the professional software in the time limits that the EOS software operates and this limit is 60 minutes.

If our friend wanted to take time lapse picture of a flower from the small flower bulb stage to fully opened stage, and does it automatically 24 hours a day for one to two days, it calls for professional softwares written for the purpose.

Its a bit of a joke realy i personaly have a cannon 400d and you can download the software as people have sead to get it to do time laps. but realy it wouldent have taken mutch for cannon to put it on the camara photography is abit of a joke when it comes to companies taking mony off you for stupid things that realy are not worth what u have to pay. for example i am doing a degree in games and it would take a programmer about 15minits to write the code required to take multiple photoes over a prolonged peroid of time and save it to the cf card on the camra. lol thats my rant over in short photography is still up its ass evan though its improving now the hardware is alot cheeper

Why doesn't someone hack the firmware to do this. Is there just not enough need for this out there.

I use my Laptop to trigger my 400d using the supplied software but you can build your own for about $20 and a little time. If you know how to solder then you can do it.
