Canon EOS 20D with err fc and err 99 codes

Canon EOS 20D using a scandisk extreme III compact flash. Very reliable for 2 years. Today, after downloading pictures to a PC, I put the compact flash card back into the camera and got a "err cf" message. Followed instruction in the users manuel to reformat the compact flash. The format process isn't working and ends in an "err 99" code. Have fully recharged the battery, let the camera sit without the battery for 60 minutes, etc. No improvement. Any help to remedy this would be appreciated.

Well, Mike, this is the reason why it's a good idea to have more than one flash card. Reason being, insurance. Any memory card can fail or become corrupted. And when you're on vacation the last thing you want is to lose the opportunity to take pictures until you can recover that media card with a software utility. If your card goes bad, swapping another one for it at that moment is of advantage so you can keep taking pics. Then, later when you're in front of your PC, you can use a utility like "F-Recovery" to get back your pictures and recover your card.

But the simple fact is, that sooner or later, you just have to replace the card. They do wear out. So, I'd try one or two other cards, preferably new ones. If the problem still pops up, then you know it's the camera that's the issue and a repair is needed. But I'm betting the card just went bad on you.
