Which camera and lens

My knowledge in photograph is very limited, and I am not knowing to decide on the model of camera and the lenses I need. The camera would have two types of use: the first one would be for a general uses, and the second use is for to photograph details, especially pens and Watchs for eBay. I had recommendation to the Canon line EOS, 30D or rebel XT 400, therefore it seems me that 20D is leaving line. That is correct? Which camera would have better relation price benefits, for my use, and which you would recommend to me. And which lens would be more adjusted for my use. I would like that they were of the line canon, but they are very expensive, or another alternative of less cost, with similar level. At last you could suggest a set with the price.
