Canon 30D vs Nikon D80

I have been looking at the Nikon D80 recently and was pretty set on it until a friend offered me a Canon 30D in great condition for under $400 (no lens). I mainly shoot theatre for lighting purposes and need to upgrade to a more serious camera. I am torn, I am not sure if I should go with the deal or hold out for the Nikon. Is there any advice as to which manufacturer would be a better option. Thanks.

THe only real advantage the D80 has is that you can use 50 years of Nikkor lenses with it. But for $400, I'd pull that trigger.

Thanks. I've been looking at lenses for the Canon 30D. I have a Canon Rebel TI for 35mm film that has a 28-90mm EF lens that I believe will fit the 30D but I feel that it is a little cheap and basic. What is another lens that might be good as a starter?

Well, if you can afford it, the same but f2.8 would be worth it. There's an 18-55mm lens that's a good basic start lens. Or you can get an all in one 18-200mm. But I think that 28-90 will work fine unless you want a wide option for landscapes.
