Would the canon EOS 50D BE A SUITABLE CAMERA FOR COVERING WEDDING FUNCTIONS ,AND OTHER FUNTIONS ,FOR PORTRAITS ETC

MY basic need is wedding (mostly taking good portraits of the couple ,group snaps, the function, scennery etc.,) & also glamour--what basic lens would I HAVE TO GET.Will the Canon normal lens with 1/8 apperture combine well as I have good control over the manual settings with my film cameras.Could you advice me which low end flash would suitable for the 50D.Would the manual funtion work well, like would I able to keep the ISO to 100 when I CHANGE OTHER SETTINGS .

Sure. But you could also consider the Canon T1i which has the added benefit of recording video in 1080p HD. As for basic lens, you want to do better than the "kit" lens. Remember that whatever body you start with, you'll replace it sooner or later. While the lenses will transition from body to body. So if you're just getting into the game, I'd spend most of your money on the glass.
